Finally, in just a little while, Season 2 of True Blood will premiere on HBO.
Created by Alan Ball, and based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the series depicts the adventures of the human, vampire and other supernatural folk in the fictional town of Bon Temps. It stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Chris Bauer, Michelle Forbes, Nelsan Ellis, Deborah Ann Woll, Alexander Skarsgard, and Mehcad Brooks.
The second season has been greeted with generally positive reviews, many of which single out Michelle Forbes's portrayal of Maryann - a Maenad (Greek: Μαινάδες), a divine force of nature - as an exceptional treat this season. Throughout the season, we are set up for the enjoyment of watching the character "get up to no good", the slow unravelling of what a Maenad is, and, more importantly, what is the reason for her being in Bon Temps.
The synopsis of tonight's Episode "Nothing But the Blood":
A shocking murder outside Merlotte’s has Bon Temps reeling. Meanwhile, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer) is tested when she learns about Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and of his involvement in her uncle’s death. Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old. Jason (Ryan Kwanten) gets a sudden windfall that allows him to pay for a leadership retreat with the Fellowship of the Sun. Two adversaries find themselves sharing a mysterious dungeon and, possibly, the same fate.
To celebrate the premiere, I have tried my hand at making up a video, focusing on the characters Maryann, Tara, and Sam. I hope you enjoy it.
